In Janruary, Activities Abroad, sent an email to every one of it’s customers database. The email got a number of people angry because they claimed they can offer ‘Chav-free’ holidays.
Although there were several angry responses to the email, it seems to have been beneficial. The company that offers a range of active holidays have recently reported that they have seen a 32% rise in sales. It goes to show that not many people want to go on holiday with chavs.
The way the company promises that you will have a ‘chav-free’ holiday is by the name of their customers. The email that the holiday company sent out went to 24,000 people and it stated that their customers are most likely to have middle-class names like Michael, Charles or Alice.
They also said that if you book a holiday with them then you are less likely to be on holiday with people named Dazza or Chardonnay, who are considered ‘chav’ names.
They finished the email with some education statistics.
They claim that if you have a middle-class name like Duncan or Alice, you are almost 10 times more likely to pass your GCSEs. Compared to people with names like Dwayne or Wayne.
Even though the company received a number of emails from angry customers saying they will never travel with them again, the company is pleased with it’s ad campaign.
A spokesman spoke with Sky News and said this: “Essentially, our clientele has embraced the tongue-in-cheek nature of the original campaign and, having examined the names of the people booked to travel with the company this summer, we can report that there is not a Kylie-Lianne or K’Tee in sight!”
So, if you are fed up of going on your Antarctica holidays with a bunch of Dwayne’s and Wayne’s and you’d much rather go on a Galapagos holiday and mingle with some respectable Duncan’s and Alice’s, then maybe a ‘chav-free’ holiday is what you need.
